Easter fonts

! Welcome to the Current Issue of the LinoLetter ! Subscribe Unsubscribe

Introduction:

In March and April, winter comes to an end and springtime begins; it’s the time of year to celebrate! Linotype.com has just added a page full of font suggestions for Easter, and if you are searching for the proper font for your Sunday brunch invitation, look no further! Just a few weeks before Easter is another fine holiday – St. Patrick’s Day. Since uncial typefaces are most commonly associated with Ireland, we’ve brought out an emerald of our crop for this month’s newsletter: Sweeney™. And now that the Oscars have aired, March marks the beginning of a new season of movies to enjoy. Check out Linotype’s new “Movie Value Pack” – five high-quality fonts for one low price! Many renowned designers have worked closely with Linotype throughout its 120-year history, but William Addision Dwiggins was one of the first. Read more about his life, work, and legacy in a new Linotype.com Font Feature.

Have fonts of fun!
Easter Font Selection
The change of seasons brings a breath of fresh air into our daily routine. It is time to open the windows and let the sun in! Invite your neighbors over for tea, or if the weather is right, a BBQ! The fonts you’ll need are now all viewable in one location: a colorful, sorted page on the Linotype website.
Sweeney Font
Sweeney captures the verve and energy of broad pen calligraphy in a digital font. An italic uncial with strong Celtic overtones, Sweeney maintains the conventions of medieval Celtic manuscript writing, making no distinction between caps and lowercase letters. Several swash and alternative characters and a suite of Roman numerals are included in the OpenType character set. There is even a “lino cut” companion font! In keeping with the Irish theme of the uncial forms, several border segments based upon Celtic knot-work are also included. Named after an ancient Irish king, Sweeney is the perfect fit for Irish festivals, whether they fall on St. Patrick’s Day or not. But the inherent beauty of the letterforms invites a broad number of possibilities. This is an excellent choice for celebrations year round.
Movie Value Pack
This year’s Oscar season may have come and gone, but the pictures themselves will always be with us. Like all artistic branches, graphic and typeface design play their own role in film production. Whenever the promotional materials for a film are to be made, certain stock styles are always in demand. Our new Movie Value pack brings five fonts together for one low price, putting a sampling of popular Hollywood typefaces at your fingertips!
TypoTechnica 2007
Linotype is pleased to announce its upcoming TypoTechnica™ conference, which will take place at the Gutenberg-Schule in Frankfurt, from April 27 to 29, 2007. TypoTechnica is renowned as the premiere platform bringing together typeface designers, font developers, and software technicians. Taking place for the fourth time, international font technology specialists, speakers and trainers will come together for the open and stimulating exchange of experience, skills, and technical know-how.
The keynote speaker will be the young and talented type designer from New York, Christian Schwartz.
Dwiggins Font Feature
By the late 1920s, William Addison Dwiggins had already built a solid reputation as an advertising artist, book designer, and illustrator. But he was never one to rest on his laurels. Concerned with the future of American typography, he virtually began a second career, working with Mergenthaler Linotype in New York to develop new typefaces. Many of these are still popular today, several decades after their release. W. A. Dwiggins is fascinating for this and many other reasons – not to mention his hobby as a puppeteer! Learn more about the man behind Metro, Electra™, and Caledonia™ in our new web feature.

Easter Egg Hunt
Until April 10, 2007, Linotype is sponsoring an “Easter Egg Hunt&Rdquo; on its website! If you find and click on three Easter egg images scattered on pages throughout our website, you’ll be able to exchange them for a free gift – a special pre-selected high-quality OpenType font – the next time you make a purchase!
Movie Fonts
Did you know that Linotype.com has a special page devoted to identifying typefaces found on movie posters? Perhaps your favorite film (or at least your favorite typeface) is on the list! Check out our selection today.
