About the Font

Winner typeface from our 2nd International Type Design Contest.

Quotations of PAGE 06/1997 about Linotype Pisa:

Adrian Frutiger about Pisa: "Kurt Weidemann has set Pisa apart – a sanserif with very subtle swash characteristics. It has small strokes like a serifed typeface; for example, the lowercase e has an entry stroke on the left side. This gives the typeface a lively appearance which differentiates it from other sanserifs."

"Just like the Leaning Tower of Pisa, this typeface leans a little to the side. Lutz Baar immediately created the typeface description "inclined", which he positioned between roman and italic. Along with Pisa Display (Headline), the designer created the variants light, regular, medium, and bold, which are all exceptional for text setting. Almost 30 years ago, the Berlin-born designer moved to Sweden. With his son Sebastian, he runs the advertising agency Miraculus in Göteborg."

Pisa was drawn directly on computer (Fontographer) after initial sketches on paper. The headline variant has slightly more aggressive forms and is set more tightly than the text variants.
