Linotype’s Expert Choices present selected typefaces that have been chosen for their level of quality and suitability in a number of various categories. Let yourself be swept away by these inspiring fonts!
Handwriting/Grunge Fonts
Handwriting fonts are in! Linotype offers a comprehensive selection of various styles, from elegant to distressed. These fonts fit a wide array of projects: posters, scrapbooks, personal invitations, and much more. Use them everywhere a personal touch is needed!

Sans Serif Fonts
The term "sans serif" is derived from French and means "without serifs". Some examples of sans serif types are Helvetica, Frutiger, Optima and Futura.

Serif Fonts
A serif is a small stroke projecting from the main stroke of a character. Some popular serif typefaces are Times Roman or Century Schoolbook. Serifs can have many different shapes: bracketed (e.g. Times Roman), slab (e. g. Stymie), and hairline serifs (e. g. Bodoni) are some examples.

Script Fonts
Script fonts are typefaces with a personal touch, like calligraphy and handwriting fonts. They are perfect for invitations, greeting cards, headlines or very short, expressive texts. They range from classic, flowing scripts for elegant designs to light-hearted types with rounded forms for a fresh, peppy look.

Symbol Fonts
Symbol fonts have become a must for illustrating a variety of graphic designs. Symbols communicate quickly, simply and often universally. Designers will also find it easy to use vectorized symbols for complex graphics even in large print sizes without compromising the quality ... and still be able to pack them into small digital files. Let our selection of symbol fonts inspire you!

Cool Fonts
Cool fonts are typefaces that reflect the spirit of our contemporary age. The possible applications for them are almost unlimited, and include anything that should have a hip, objective look.

Techno Fonts
Techno Fonts are an excellent choice for anything which should look electronic, up to date, and cool. Many of these fonts hold important positions in the progression of contemporary font design – since the beginning of the digital age, many young designers have devoted more time to the design of funky fonts like these.

Blackletter Fonts
Based on Gothic type and late medieval calligraphy, these styles range from those marking the beginning of Gothic printing to the ornate Gothic types of 19th century Germany. This category also includes faces with a Gothic look but created by modern type designers.

Celebration Fonts
Celebrations fonts are typefaces for special occasions like weddings, birthdays, funerals or baptisms as well as for events and holidays like Halloween, Valentine’s Day, Easter or Christmas.

Corporate Fonts
Corporate fonts are customized fonts to suit the needs and image of any type of business. Professional corporate design which unmistakably represents a company is in today’s world a necessity and corporate typefaces and logos are a deciding factor in its success.

Cyrillic Fonts
Linotype offers more and more typefaces in Cyrillic in OpenType, TrueType, and PostScript. OpenType Fonts with Cyrillic are particularly easy to use, because the Latin encoding and the Cyrillic encoding are completely contained within one Font. In the other font formats (TueType and PostScript), the various language groups available are divided up into several fonts.

Book & Magazine Fonts
A good variety of choices of headlines and text fonts are necessary for book and magazine design. In classical book and magazine publishing, serif fonts have most often been chosen for text, as these have historically been seen as the most legible in longer passages. On the other hand, modern literature is commonly set with sans serif fonts, because of their associations with 20th Century Modernism. Additionally, headlines and experimental design allow for more creative styles of fonts, as they are often used in larger sizes. Magazines and newspapers often combine serif and sans serif fonts on one page, i.e., serif fonts for body text, sans serif for headlines or captions.

Comic Fonts
Comics fonts are any fonts for applications relating to children, toys, fun, etc. Fonts that are used for body text in comics must remain legible without sacrificing their unique style. Aside from faces with round, handwritten-like letters, futuristic-appearing fonts also fit the bill.

Poster Fonts
Poster fonts are eye-catching, expressive fonts that are highly legible from a distance. When designing a poster, it is often important to put as much information into as small of a space as possible. In these cases, bold condensed fonts can work the best! Our selection of poster type runs the gamut from good, legible fonts to super experimental display fonts that only work in very large sizes. We also have several all-caps headline faces that are especially creative.

Screen Fonts
Excellent Screen Fonts (XSF-Fonts) are OpenType or TrueType fonts with an excellent appearance on screen at small sizes or low resolutions – especially engineered and optimized as a response of the continuous increasing demand for exceptionally readable typefaces on computer screens using Microsoft® Windows operating systems.
Fonts that are engineered for on screen performance are often called pixel fonts, as their forms perfectly align to the computer screen’s underlying pixel grid.

Western Fonts
Western fonts are perfect for printed materials that require a spice of the Wild West; e.g., menus, party invitations, and posters. Western Fonts reflect the spirit of the old West, and because of their exaggerated design features, they are best used for headlines.
